Hi! This is my first blog. And to start with I would like to…..uhh let’s not be formal; it’s just a goddam blog. Anyways, let’s start again…And to start with, I am writing about my Niece. Right now she is one year old and we already share a love and hate relationship- We love to irritate each other and hate to live peacefully together. Eh! no…I was just kidding. This statement is actually only 90% true ;). My niece only wakes me up early in the morning by crying out loud for no reason. And when I try to go back to sleep, she gets on my bed and pulls my hair really hard, it feels like my hair is stuck in an elevator which is going up from the ground floor. Man! That kid is really powerful. She is a devil. If you’re thinking that I am being mean by calling her a Devil, then your thoughts will change after reading further.
From the time she was born, she wanted someone to lift her up and stand ONLY. Even if we tried to sit, she didn't let us. As if we had machine legs which would never pain. We used to ask each other to lift her up, but nobody could do it for more than a few minutes. At that time I thought if she crawls, we won’t have to do that. So I wanted her to start crawling early. But when she did, there was no stopping for her. She was so fast that we had to run after her; because her main attractions were not toys or anything that kids like. She loved going to the dustbins, brooms, and every such thing. She also used to put all unwanted things in her mouth; she has this habit of eating all dirty things. If we give her anything to eat, she would not eat that, but if the same thing falls on the floor, she would finish it all.
To control her from making mess, I got her a walker, so that we can eat peacefully, without letting her play with our plates or food. At first she sat on that for quite a few minutes, but then she realized that she cannot go anywhere. So from there on, she never liked sitting in that. And when we used to try making her sit in it, she used to cry and struggle herself away from that walker, like how we would try clinging on to the tree branch to avoid falling in to crocodile’s mouth. So, that trick didn’t work either. Seeing the baby walker she used to run away.
When she started walking/running, nothing that was two feet above the ground could be saved. Now she dials emergency numbers from phone, which thankfully never connect. She pinches us and runs away, takes off my mum’s Bindi and runs away, throws all my clothes from my dress box and runs away, takes out comb, pen and I-card from my dad’s pocket and runs away, At night, while my dad’s asleep, she pulls his hair and runs away, while we’re watching TV, she turns it off from the main button and runs away, when we're sleeping, she jumps on us, slaps us or pulls our hair and runs away, pees on my sisters phone, dances on her pee, eats ants, tries to break or bend mums spectacles, drinks just one sip from the tumbler and spills rest of the water everywhere, puts our phones, torches, pens, her milk bottle, my comb, memory card reader, slip-ons etc., inside our front load washing machine, shouts at me and my mum; stares at us like she’s gonna eat us up.
She puts her hand in the doors gap, like it got stuck, and cries till we get it out ( she does know how to take her hand out of the door gap). She does it just to throw tantrums. She always goes into the bathroom, gets herself wet, eats soap and drinks water from the mug. Pulling her out means inviting crying opera at our place. Whenever she notices that the bathroom is open, she sees if the coast is clear and runs towards it to drink eat and get wet,. She goes to the shoe stand and throws all the shoes off the rack, knowing that we would scold her. She usually moves slowly towards the shoe stand, constantly looking at us, starts her job. And when she sees me, she immediately drops the shoe from her hand. She many a times does things intentionally, because she knows that we don’t want her to do all that. Another example of that is putting hand in the dustbin, and getting some or the other trash from that. On top of it, giving it to us, and if don’t take it, she again throws tantrums. She once got the dustbin in the hall, and everyone yelled “arrreeeee bapreeee”. Then we went back to the place where the dustbin was kept. No prize to guess, the trash was all over the place and some of it was on her.
This is only 30% of what she does. Rest could not be explained. And I guess you would now agree with me that she is a Devil. Well, there’s one more thing about her…and me. As I told you that we hate to live peacefully together, meant that it wasn’t just her, but me too. Most of the time she messes with me, in fact all of us, but I too love to irritate her. I have different ways of taking revenge from her - Blocking her ways, holding her for longer time (not allowing her to move), kissing her till she gets irritated, wrapping her with sweater and shawls in boiling summer and not letting anyone remove it, putting a sticker on her back and seeing her struggling to remove it, acting like I’ve kept something in her pockets and making her restlessly search for it, keeping chilled water bottle on her bum, putting a handbag on her shoulder which she isn’t able to take out, and many such things which irritate her like anything. But that’s nothing compared to what she does to us…right? You know, I don’t like playing with her as much I like annoying her. It’s not my fault totally, she is so mischievous, kids usually give innocent looks, but she only gives wicked looks from the time she was born.
The battle between us will continue for…I don’t know how long. Till then, stay tuned for more updates on ‘Me v/s My Devil niece’.
